Anatomical Institute of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the University of Mons (Belgium)
A first at the Anatomy Institute of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the University of Mons with an innovative and concrete project for the students!
The reinforcing of learning anatomical cadaveric dissection in addition of using ultrasonography in vivo. This is by no means a victory, but a considerable step further in medical education.
This innovative project took place from the initiative of the Head of the Department, Professor Sven Saussez and Ms. Anne Julie Chelle educational manager and dissection teacher and originated at the Anatomy Institute of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the University of Mons.
Each of them considers that it is important and necessary to provide future doctors with all the educational resources necessary to cope with the permanent evolution of current medicine.
In fact, the discovery of the ultrasound takes all its place in the future doctor’s education. It is useful to understand the anatomy through imaging and there is a real added value in early diagnosis and management of choices in primary care.
In parallel and in addition to cadaveric dissection, ultrasound allows to complement physiological aspect of fluids, cardiopulmonary, abdominal, nervous or even locomotor “in Vivo”.
It is therefore an excellent educational tool which allows the anatomy to be anchored with concrete notions, useful and necessary for the basic’s knowledge in the medicine’s educational program.
This innovative project was received and greeted positively by 100% of the students.
This vast project would of course not have been possible without the logistical support of Echomedic, which has supported Dynamecho for nearly 10 years on numerous educational projects. We do not forget our friend Dr Boutros who by his great generosity wished to contribute to the project by donating his ultrasound machine to us and hoping that among these students one of them will become anaesthesiologist.
The greatest gift at the end of the course was having 3 students come up to me and tell me that thanks to this day, they no longer have any doubts about their choice to become radiologist!
Thank you all for this wonderful experience.
